Summary
Located along the east shore of Kootenay Lake, our retreat center is situated on 5 treed acres overlooking the lake with stunning views of Kokanee Glacier. Guests have access to fully equipped guest kitchen, dining room, large living room with fireplace, patio and deck. There is a total of six bedrooms and one suite – each rented individually.
Property Description
Tara Shanti is a large chateau style structure with six guest bedrooms in total, five with private ensuite bathrooms and the sixth with access to a shared bathroom across the common area. Three rooms face the west with beautiful views of the glacier and lake. The other three bedrooms face east and have morning sun plus views of the garden and the surrounding forest of mature trees.
On the lower level we have our newly completed Waterfall Suite which is equipped with a small kitchen and 3 piece bath. It has a private patio and separate entrance and offers both glacier and lake views.
Guests
Guest Amenities– Guests are free to use all common areas on the property including a large living room and dining room as well as the deck and patio. To help accommodate guests, especially those planning a longer stay, we have a fully equipped guest kitchen available for your use. This includes an electric induction stove, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. The guest kitchen comes stocked with a suite of pots, pans, utensils and dishes. The kitchen area will be shared by all guests.
Upon arrival
Gord or Maggie will be on hand to greet arriving guests and following check-in receive a tour of the premises and all it has to offer. Check-in is 3-7 pm.
Sustainability
In the theme of sustainability, we have incorporated energy and water efficiency wherever possible. The renovations also incorporated select recycled product options such as recycled roof (Enviroshake) and deck (Azek). Throughout the property you will find items which have been ‘re-purposed’ and as part of the growing Eastshore community, Gord and Maggie actively support other local businesses and greenhouses.
Things to do in the area
Summer activities in and around Kootenay Lake include hiking, cycling, golfing, swimming, kayaking, sailing/boating, birding and fishing or just relax and enjoy the vistas.
Winter activities on the Eastshore can involve snowshoeing, cross-country and backcountry skiing as well as snowmobiling. For downhill skiing enthusiasts Whitewater is just south of Nelson so about 75 minutes away from Tara Shanti (including free ferry ride). There are also set tracks for snowshoeing as well as cross-country skiing at Whitewater.
Common Amenities
Rooms include essentials as follows: Towels, bedding, bar soap and toilet paper. All guests have access to a fully equipped Guest Kitchen (includes 4 burner stove and standard size oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave).
